Botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin treatment is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and expression lines.

This treatment is very popular for its effectiveness and speed in providing visible results, especially in areas such as the forehead, crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes) and between the eyebrows.

What is botulinum toxin used for?

Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin that, when injected in small amounts locally above the muscles we select, temporarily blocks the nerve signals that cause muscle contraction.

By relaxing the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles (those caused by repetitive movements), botulinum toxin can soften and reduce the appearance of these wrinkles.

Also, being a muscle relaxant, it has been used for the treatment of muscle contractures in the back, in the treatment of migraines and in the treatment of bruxism (excessive contraction of the masticatory muscles of the jaw) and to refine the oval of the face.

How long does it take to take effect?

The first effects of treatment with botulinum toxin can begin to be noticed between 3 and 5 days after the procedure (although they can begin to be noticed after the first 24 hours).

Final results are usually visible in approximately 1 to 2 weeks, when the muscles have completely relaxed and wrinkles have softened significantly. This is why we will always carry out a second in-person assessment to assess whether a touch-up is needed to increase the effects.

Expected results

Botulinum toxin treatment can significantly soften wrinkles on the forehead, crow’s feet and between the eyebrows, providing a more youthful and rested appearance. The results are usually natural, maintaining facial expressiveness.

The effects of botulinum toxin usually last between 3 and 6 months. As the muscles regain their activity, wrinkles may gradually reappear, so maintenance treatments are recommended to preserve the results.

There is a very interesting long-term aesthetic effect for patients who have been rigorous in administering toxin when the effect of the last dose was already wearing off. It may be that not as much dose is needed or even that the doses can be spaced out more over time. This is because the muscle atrophies slightly over time and does not have as much basic strength to mark the wrinkles.

Is it possible to combine aesthetic medicine with facial surgery?

Great results can be achieved with small details such as those provided by aesthetic medicine. The key is to apply them in the right quantities and locations, and this can only be achieved if a correct initial diagnosis is made.

We will always carry out a comprehensive assessment of facial aesthetics, and you can choose from three paths:

With cosmetic surgery we can

Repositioning tissues that have fallen

Recover tissues that have atrophied over the years.

With aesthetic medicine we can

Correct small asymmetries with a high degree of detail that we cannot achieve with surgery.

Correct dynamic wrinkles with botulinum toxin.

Increase skin brightness with hydration and nutrition thanks to hyaluronic acid.

The effect of applying both surgical and aesthetic medicine techniques at the level of facial aesthetics is not additive, it is multiplicative!
