Scars

What can my scar look like and what can we do to hide it as much as possible? Do you want answers to these questions?

I am going to answer you ALL on this page. First of all, let's talk a little bit about scars.

In plastic surgery, scars are part of the process. But not all scars are the same, and not all surgeons treat them in the same way.My practice is especially focused on surgeries that require long scars, both at breast and body level, always with a very clear objective:To obtain the best possible aesthetic result with the least scarring necessary.

What can my scar look like and what will it be like?

I am going to give you examples of scars in other patients who have already undergone surgery:

This is what an inverted T-scar after a breast lift with prostheses looks like at 7 months.

cicatriz2

This is what a scar from abdominoplasty surgery looks like at 2 years.

Why do some surgeries require long scars?

There are procedures in which a short scar does not allow a good result to be achieved. To tighten, reposition, define contours and remove excess skin, it is essential to make wider scars in strategic positions.

¿De qué depende que una cicatriz quede mejor o peor?

What does it depend on whether a scar looks better or worse?

It is one of the most important pillars. In the operating room I dedicate special time and precision to:

  • Accurate incision planning
  • Work along natural lines of tension
  • Close by planes to reduce stress
  • Choosing suitable sutures
  • Gentle tissue handling

As a specialist in long scar surgery, my goal is always for the scar to be thin, regular and strategically placed.

An essential part depends on the patient himself. For a scar to evolve correctly, it is necessary:

  • Respecting rest
  • Avoid efforts
  • Wear the indicated compression garments
  • Taking medication correctly
  • Having a nutrition rich in proteins and micronutrients
  • Completely avoid smoking, which is one of the worst factors affecting healing.

If the surgery and postoperative period are done well, the skin has the best conditions to close and mature optimally.

Until recently, genetics was the only factor on which we could not act. Everyone heals differently: some people develop scars that are virtually invisible, and others tend to have thicker, wider or uneven scars, even with flawless surgery.

Today we have the only treatment capable of acting on the cicatriz before it is formed

URGOTOUCH® LASER (applied in the operating theater)

How does it work?

This laser is applied during surgery, just after the incision is made, before the scar begins to form.It is the only laser that exists focused on FOCUSING THE CYCATRIZE TO HEAL WELL.The rest of the lasers for scars are applied later, when the scars have been previously damaged.Scientific studies have shown that the Urgotouch® laser:-modulates healing from the very first minute-Promotes a more regular and aesthetic scar.-Reduces the risk of wide scars-It can improve the final visibility of the scar by 50% to 70%.Because of my specialization in long scars, I consider it essential to offer this treatment to maximize the chances of quality healing. Here is an example of the results obtained in the scientific studies carried out with the Urgotouch © laser.

Conclusion

Scars should not worry you

At Barcelona Body Image we work so that the patient:
understands why a scar is necessary,
feels accompanied at all times,
and obtains a harmonious, natural and aesthetic result, even in surgeries with long scars.

With a good technique, a good postoperative period and the appropriate technologies, scars can be discreet and evolve very favorably.

Examples that explain our surgical philosophy very well:

A harmonious body is achieved by treating the whole

This is a fundamental concept:

  • If we treat only one area, the body may look “piecemeal”.
  • If we treat the trunk as a whole, the result is more coherent, more natural and more aesthetic.

In fact, although it may seem otherwise, the more areas you work on in combination, the more natural the final result looks.
